UFC heavyweight Derrick Lewis adds a quirky twist to his training

UFC heavyweight Derrick Lewis will meet Matt Mitrione on Friday at the Foxwoods Resort in Ledyard, Connecticut.

Lewis has the same built as former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar but this is the last thing he wants to hear, a comparison between him and Lesnar. Even if Lesnar has more achievements in UFC compared to Lewis, it does not matter for the UFC heavyweight.

He said "There's a big difference between me and Brock Lesnar, man. The difference is, Brock is scared to get hit. Me, I don't care about getting hit. When he would get hit, he'd curl up like a little baby. I'm there to fight and getting hit is a part of fighting. That's the difference between me and him."

Lewis had a long way to before he became famous in UFC. He had been in prison for a violation of probation and when he got out, he saw no other opportunity for him than to fight as he had a child coming up and he is broke.

Lewis has had in born talent in fighting having grown up in the streets of New Orleans and Houston. Since he needed a job and he had the skills, he pointed his 6-foot-3 built to mixed martial arts.

Lewis had no formal training in MMA that is why he found himself stifled by guys in gym trying to hold him down so as not to give them concussion.

Eventually, Lewis learned how to grapple and wrestle and that was when he made it to Bellator and then became the Legacy Fighting Championship's heavyweight title-holder.

Lewis believes that Mitrione has a lot of weakness and he will use it to his advantage. He said "I believe the only way to do this is to get prepared like you're going to fight the best guy in the class. So I'm training like I'm getting ready to fight Cain. Obviously, that's what I want, to [defeat Velasquez and win] the title. I [trained like] that even before I got to the UFC."

Adding "If I'm ready to fight the best there is, then I'll be as ready as I can be to fight."
