2015 is indeed a huge comeback for the sought-after director Quentin Tarantino as he eyes on next year's release dates of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair and The Hateful Eight.
On how he is going to juggle between two huge productions, here are a couple of scoops that might support its feasibility, alongside some other details that you have to know about these upcoming films.
Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair
Kill Bill 3 aka The Whole Bloody Affair is perhaps a longer cut of its successors. Months ago, Tarantino gave a glimpse of the much-awaited sequel at the Comic-Con as he pronounced:
"What's going on with that is originally back when Kill Bill was going to be one movie, I wrote an even longer anime sequence. So you see in the movie [O-Ren] kill her boss but then there was that long hair guy... The big sequence was her fighting that guy. I.G. [The Japanese Anime Studio] who did Ghost in the Shell said we can't do that and finish it in time for your thing. And [plus] you can't have a thirty-minute piece in your movie. I said okay. It was my favorite part but it was the part you could drop. So we dropped it and then later when I.G. heard we were talking about doing Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair - they still had the script so without even being commissioned, they just did it and paid for it themselves. It's really terrific. Anyway, The Weinstein Company and myself were talking about actually coming out with it sometime, not before the year is out, but within the next year with limited theatrical engagement as well." The catch here is, Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is expected to have a limited release in theaters and fans across the globe might have to wait a little longer for the official screening date. It is worth mentioning however, that such 'limited release' of Tarantino's film is no longer new to us.
In fact, Slash Film reported about the 2011 release of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair in one theater. On the brighter side of things, this might just give us some reassurance that maybe Tarantino is already done with the sequel of the series we last saw in 2004. Maybe this was the primary reason why he confidently spoke of the 2015 release date of another great masterpiece in the making, The Hateful Eight.
According to Germain of Slash Film, "Then, in 2004, Tarantino showed a combined version of the film at the Cannes Film Festival that became known as Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair. We thought that meant general audiences would finally get to see it in some way but alas, that was not the case."
Quoting his take on the 215-minute film, he shares:
"Right off the bat, there's a major change as the Klingon proverb has been replaced by a dedication to filmmaker Kinji Fukasaku. By removing the quote, it immediately makes it obvious that, because this is one huge film instead of two very different ones, Kill Bill isn't solely about revenge for the sake of revenge anymore."
The Hateful Eight
Just like Kill Bill 3, Tarantino has been teasing the public about the The Hateful Eight for years now but we are only aware of very few developments.
Building up the momentum on the possibility of meeting the project timeline of this film, it was reported last Wednesday that the Weinstein Company (Tarantino's partner in Reservoir Dogs and Django Unchained) is set to distribute The Hateful Eight. In fact, the cameras will start rolling in January. It will be shot on 65mm film and have the widest 70mm film release in over 20 years.
According to the Weinsteins: "We are incredibly excited to begin production on The Hateful Eight, as we know this picture will be as innovative, brash and of course fun as all Quentin projects prior. There is, quite simply, no other filmmaker like him, and we are as proud as ever to continue this partnership that started over 20 years ago."
The leaked teaser trailer also created some buzz last month revealing the major characters of The Hateful Eight:
Major Marquis Warren as The Bounty Hunter
John Ruth as The Hangman
Daisy Domergue as The Prisoner
Chris Mannix as The Sheriff
Bob as The Mexican
Oswaldo Mobray as The Little Man
Joe Gage as The Cow Puncher
General Sandy Smithers as The Confederate
Some of the rumored actors who'll most likely play these roles were Samuel Jackson, Bruce Dern, Michael Madsen, Walton Goggins, and James Remar and Kurt Russell. But one hot scoop is the involvement ofHunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence who will probably play as the The Prisoner, as per The Collider.
However, such speculation was instantly denied by JLaw's publicist who said: "Despite internet rumors, her reps have confirmed she's not doing this project."
Here's the synopsis for The Hateful Eight taken during the live-read of the script:
"The Hateful Eight follows the steadily ratcheting tension that develops after a blizzard diverts a stagecoach from its route, and traps a pitiless and mistrustful group which includes a competing pair of bounty hunters, a renegade Confederate soldier, and a female prisoner in a saloon in the middle of nowhere."
