Georges St-Pierre news reveals that "GSP" was recently mentioned in an article published by the New York Times about NYC drug kingpin Jimmy Cournoyer. It is also believed that the former UFC welterweight champion may get some bad press because of the said write-up.
Dubbed as "The King of Pot", Cournoyer 's constant run-ins with the law have been a product of mainstream news since the early 2000s. According to reports, he spent a decade of his life selling high-grade marijuana in Canada and the United States.
Georges St-Pierre news reveals that the New York Times mentioned the former UFC welterweight champion in its most recent article, as it depicted Cournoyer's lavish lifestyle and celebrity connections.
"At the height of his success, Mr. Cournoyer, who is now 34 and is awaiting placement in the federal prison system, drove a Porsche Cayenne and a $2 million limited-edition Bugatti Veyron," the Times' Alan Feuer wrote about the Georges St-Pierre news. "He was friends with Georges St. Pierre, a mixed-martial arts fighter, and dated a lingerie model. His social circle was configured such that once, on a trip to Ibiza, he attended the same party as Leonardo DiCaprio."
It is then believed that being mentioned in the same breath as a now-convicted felon would mean a PR disaster for Georges St-Pierre, who is known for his squeaky clean image among fight fans.
But despite that, "GSP" has continued to publicly declare his friendship with Jimmy Cournoyer. The former champion even wrote a letter of support for his friend, whom he also considered as a brother.
"His mental toughness will help him go through this very hard ordeal in his life. Jimmy is a very positive and strong person and I am sure he will learn huge lessons about all that," St-Pierre told the Montreal Gazette. "I am giving a lot of support to Jimmy because he deserves it. I told him last time I visited him that when he comes out of jail, I will have a place for him in my surrounding(s)."
