Even before the first season ended, FX had already given the go signal for 'The Strain' season 2!

With the new series by acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro and Carlton Cuse averaging an 11 million viewer count on a weekly basis, it's no wonder that FX decided to renew the show for one more season.

"We've never had any doubts about 'The Strain,'" Deadline reported FX CEO John Landgraf as saying last month regarding the new show's very strong numbers. "Working with Guillermo del Toro, Carlton Cuse, and the brilliant cast led by Corey Stoll has been everything we had hoped it would be and more."

Guillermo del Toro, who directed the pilot episode and co-wrote the bestselling books with Chuck Hogan, is more than excited for 'The Strain' season 2.

"I am thrilled! Another season to spread the virus!" he said, according to Deadline.

He added, "Working with Carlton, Chuck and FX has been immensely rewarding and we have such sights to unveil in the upcoming episodes - the blood hits the fan on this one, mankind becomes an endangered species."

Cuse also expressed his excitement over the renewal news, saying, "I am grateful for all the blood, sweat and tears (but mostly blood) given to the project by all involved, and I could not be more excited to continue telling this epic story."

'The Strain' season one has already aired nine episodes to a strong audience. It has four more Sundays before its debut season ends.

'The Strain' season 2 is expected to air next summer.

In the meantime, del Toro will be busy filming 'Pacific Rim 2,' 'Crimson Peak,' and another black and white "really really bizarre" movie in the next couple of years.
