Great news for all die hard Star Wars fans. One of the most iconic Star Wars characters might just be getting his own movie franchise. The character is none other than Obi-wan Kenobi. Even though the Star Wars universe is populated by plenty of characters from its different worlds and planet, undoubtedly, one of the most well-loved and well-known among its characters is the venerated Obi-wan Kenobi.

We've seen two incarnations of the character on screen, the original one was of course sir Alec Guiness from the original Star Wars trilogy. The next one was the younger version played by Ewan McGregor in the next three movies that followed.

Now we might see a brand new one, if the rumors are to be believed. According to the superfan website Making Star Wars, a band of ardent Obi wan-Kenobi fans have compelled producers to get the wheels running on a film based solely on the Star Wars character Obi wan-Kenobi.

The website's source also relates that for a long time the Star Wars producers have avoided movies that are based only on the story of a Jedi, but the appeal of the Jedi master character was too big that they knew they just had enough interest to get a film about him greenlighted. Furthermore, the source adds that more proof of Obi wan Kenobi's popularity is the recent survey that was held on StarWars.com to know who is the best Star Wars character, and the results showed Obi wan Kenobi beating fan favorites such as Han Solo, Darth Vader, R2-2, Qui Gon Jinn and even Yoda.

While no confirmed release date, director, much less cast has been announced, what we do have right now are three more planned Star Wars spin-off movies that will be sandwiched in the between the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII, Star Wars Episode VIII and Star Wars Episode IX. The first of these planned three Star Wars movies will be directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and the remaining two will have Josh Trank in the director's chair.

Given these films popularity and the hype surrounding them, it's would be no surprise to finally have a movie about the beloved Star Wars character Obi wan Kenobi.
