The Girl Who Played With Fire Movie: Film Version To Deviate From Book’s Story? ‘Gone Girl’ Director David Fincher Reveals Movie Is ‘Extremely Different’ Novel

The Stieg Larsson books were such a bestselling success that the movie versions were almost guaranteed. They were first made into movies in the country of their origin, Sweden in 2009, and it was called the Millennium Trilogy. The American counterpart soon followed in 2011, with David Fincher helming the first movie, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Though it is generally believed that the Fight Club director did a great job with the movie, the film did not too well with in the box office. It was reported that it only took in $ 102 at the box office, but reportedly cost $ 90 million to make. Some say the release date was too blame, as the movie had a Christmas premiere, which did not suit its very dark material and content.

But it seems that director David Fincher is not giving up on the series just yet. The second installment, The Girl Who Played With Fire movie is well on its way and the big news is that things will look very, very different for our unconventional female hero, Lisbeth Salander.

In an interview with Film Divider' reporter, David Fincher revealed some juicy tidbits about the upcoming The Girl Who Played With Fire movie. The director's strategy to make up for the box office loss is to make sure the money invested in the second and third films will not go to waste, and have some tidy earnings at the box office.

And the Gone Girl director plans to do this by making the movie all his own. Meaning, fans of the book should prepare themselves for a very different version of the story in The Girl Who Played With Fire movie. An excerpt from the interview quoted by the website CinemaBlend goes like this: "I think because it [Sony] already has spent millions of dollars on the rights and the script so it will result in something. The script that we have now has huge potential. I can reveal it has much as it is extremely different from the book."

This might cause some outcry from devoted fans of the book, not to mention, from Stieg Larsson, the author himself, had he been alive long enough to have seen this. In any case, we'll see if The Girl Who Played With Fire movie makes an improvement on the already excellent material it has working for it.
