Game creator Markus "Notch" Persson has recently announced his sale of his own studio, Mojang, as well as his biggest hit, Minecraft, to Microsoft. In his statement, he thanked the fans for patronizing his work and promised them to work on more small games.

Minecraft first appeared in 2009 as a small project in its alpha stage made by a single man, which happens to be Notch himself.

After the initial success, Notch formed Mojang, a studio with his close friends, so that they could continue improving Minecraft on the PC. He also established partnerships with 4J Studios, to adapt the game for more platforms, as well as with Microsoft and Sony, to make Minecraft playable on consoles.

After confirming that Microsoft now owns Mojang and Minecraft, Notch has issued a statement on his personal website, which quickly went down due to the surge in traffic. According to the data on PasteBin, Notch didn't intend for Minecraft to become such a huge hit.

The developer points out that that he left the Minecraft development project a long time ago. However, despite of this act, millions of people still associate him with the indie project, thus adding more pressure on his part.

After the deal has been finalized, Persson plans on going back to making games as a hobby, and he thanked Minecraft fans for their loyalty. Persson concludes by saying that the deal wasn't about the money, as it was about his well-being.

With the deal finally done and over with, Microsoft can now work directly with the huge audience that Minecraft has managed to create over time. The company has not made any official announcement about the future of the experience yet. However, more details will be delivered in the coming weeks.

It’s not certain yet whether the Minecraft fan base are okay with the sale or if there's a plan for mass exodus from the title.
