Robin Williams Twitter Backlash 'Policy Changes. Following harassment on Twitter after the death of actor Robin Williams, the comedian’s daughter Zelda Williams rejoined the social media tool after signing out for a brief period of time. Zelda had been bullied off from Twitter and left Instagram after she confronted messages and pictures resembling the actor’s body.
The Independent quoted Zelda saying, "I will be leaving this account for a but [sic] while I heal and decide if I'll be deleting it or not," adding, "In this difficult time, please try to be respectful of the accounts of myself, my family and my friends.” She continued to say, "Mining our accounts for photos of dad, or judging me on the number of them is cruel and unnecessary.”
Fans encouraged the aspiring actress and expressed their support for making a decision to come back to Twitter with a strong statement about bullying on the Internet.
Del Harvey, Twitter’s Trust and Safety Team said in a statement, “We will not tolerate abuse of this nature on Twitter,” Jenn Selby from the Independent shared. Harvey was quoted as saying, “We have suspended a number of accounts related to this issue for violating our rules and we are in the process of evaluating how we can further improve our policies to better handle tragic situations like this one.”
