Urban Outfitters blood-stained sweatshirt caused the outrage of many people. It was a Kent State sweatshirt that they decided to sell online. Of course, the blood was fake. However, it was made in very bad taste, as it depicted the 1970 Kent State shooting in a sense of ridicule. After the public outcry, Urban Outfitters has already given a public apology.
It looks like no one at the famous mega-retailer realized that making an Urban Outfitters blood-stained sweatshirt labeled Kent State was a bad idea, of not the worst. It was extremely offensive, especially to the victims and to the families of the victims of that terrible incident.
Urban Outfitters has already apologized on their official Twitter account for "any offense" that their Urban Outfitters blood-stained sweatshirt might have caused. As stated by the huge company, they never intended "to allude to the tragic events." Fans are doubtful that if this was the case, then what would have been their point of trying to sell a blood-stained Kent State sweatshirt?
The backstory of this retail debacle was actually, and still is, a very famous one. 1970, four students were gunned down by the Ohio National Guard during a protest of the Vietnam War. Now, 34 years after the shooting, Urban Outfitters angered the public by selling a bloodied Kent State sweatshirt at $130. According to E Online, the description for the Urban Outfitters blood-stained sweatshirt read, "Washed soft and perfectly broken in, this vintage Kent State sweatshirt is cut in a loose, slouchy fit. Excellent, vintage condition. We only have one. So get it or regret it!"
Needless to say, the public was hurt and angry for this thoughtless display. Now, the Urban Outfitters blood-stained sweatshirt has already been removed from the website, and the company has already made a public apology.
