Trump Plaza Closing Official: 1/3rd Of Atlantic City Casinos Go Bust, Trump Taj Near Closing In Nov., Employees Warned Of 11,000 Layoffs, Trump Mulls ‘Buy Back’ To Save His Brand After Exit 5 Years Ago.
(New York) – Emerging reports claim that the Trump Plaza folded Tuesday morning becoming the fourth hotel and casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey to close its doors in 2014. And there may be more bankruptcies to follow.
Meanwhile, the Trump Taj Mahal has informed more than 3000 staff they should be prepared for more layoffs in November due to a filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy by Trump Entertainment Resorts on September 9. The Taj has alerted employees that if it cannot restructure its huge financial problems, the Taj would shutter down in two months.
Despite Donald Trump’s lack of involvement in operations at the Atlantic City casinos and hotels in five years or so, the closings will affect the Trump brand name. According to online reports, the chip stacks at the Atlantic casinos began to fall after his departure from the business.
“I think everyone knows that I'm gone,” Donald Trump was quoted as saying by Bloomberg TV via the Christian Science Monitor last month, “Atlantic City was a place that I really loved; you know, I did it for a long time in Atlantic City. But a lot of people say when I left, that's when it went bad. And in one way, I'm honored by that statement, but in another way, I feel badly about Atlantic City.”
Atlantic City pared the biggest job losses in 2013, reports the U.S. Labor Department and as many as 11,000 jobs are expected to trimmed should the Taj business fall apart in November.
Mr. Trump nonetheless shows interest in the property he once owned, "I left Atlantic City years ago, good timing. Now I may buy back in, at much lower price, to save Plaza & Taj. They were run badly by funds," CSM.com reports.
