Recently k-dramas have favored female characters getting back together with previous boyfriends and ex-husbands. But that was not the case with the finale of "Temptation." This drama seemed to say that while love may be the truest thing in your life, your first love is not necessarily your true love or the one you stay true to.
Love can be complicated.
In an interview with etoday, Park Ha Sun said that trying to understand the motivations of her "Temptation" character Na Hong Joo forced her to think about what it meant to love.
"It wasn't easy as my character had some depth to her," she said. "But I tried hard to understand her and I thought seriously about the nature of love."
At the end of the drama Park Ha Sun's character let go of her desire for revenge and became a stronger woman for all her suffering.
In the drama's finale Yoo Se Young, played by Choi Ji Woo, found the courage to face the challenges of her illness and Cha Suk Hoon, played by Kwon Sang Woo, saved her company from the evil intentions of her enemy. Lee Jung Jin's character faced justice for his crimes. And while he was not completely crushed or repentant, his actions cost him the most important love in his life. And that was sad in a way because as evil as his actions were, he began his misguided quest for vengeance because of love.
The final episode of the drama managed to reach the double digits in the ratings although even the dramatic conclusion did not propel the ratings into first place. "Temptation" ended in second place with ratings of 10.8 percent.
Next week "Temptation" will be replaced by the historical drama "Secret Door," which stars Han Suk Kyu, Lee Jae Hoon and Kim Yoo Jung.
The drama that achieved first place in the ratings again this week is the fantasy saeguk "The Night Watchmen," starring Jung Il Woo, Go Sung Hee and U-Know Junho. That drama even saw a rise in its ratings, going from 11.3 percent to 12.2 percent.
The third place drama also saw a boost in its ratings from Monday to Tuesday. The romantic comedy "Discovery of Love" rose from 6.9 percent to 7.2 percent. The comedy stars Sung Joon, Jung Yu Mi, Kim Seul Gi and Eric Moon.
