When it rains, it pours! At least, this is true of the upcoming third installment of the Star Trek movie franchise. Plenty of details and confirmations have been coming out about this sci-fi movie. Recently, Trekkies were all abuzz about the news that the next Star Trek film will shoot in the next six months, according to actor Zachary Quinto, who plays Mr. Spock. Today now brings the much awaited news of Star Trek plot details.
The news comes courtesy of TrekMovie.com, and from them we know that screenwriter Robert Orci has actually finished the first draft of the movie's screenplay. Rumor has it that the Star Trek 3 plot will take place during on or after the fifth year that the Enterprise has been in space, quite a long way after the timeframe that the last movie, Star Trek: Into Darkness tackled.
As opposed to the first two Star Trek movies, whose stories tied them closely to the home planet of earth, the Star Trek 3 plot takes our heroes deeper into outer space where they will be bound to encounter aliens and other strange planets. This is in keeping with earlier news that screenwriter Robert Orci has created a story that more in keeping with the theme and plotlines of the original Star Trek TV series.
For the director, it looks like J.J. Abrams would have his hands full with Star Wars 7 to sit in the directorial chair for Star Trek 3. Reportedly, Robert Orci himself might be tapped to direct this movie, but if not him, another frontrunner for the job is Joe Cornish (Attack the Block), according to ScreenRant.
As for the Star Trek 3 release date, Paramount pictures has voiced its intention to premier the movie in 2016. This is because they want the Star Trek movie to be out in time for the 50th anniversary of the original TV series.
