Following his iconic role as demi-god strongman "Hercules," Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's was rumored to play several prominent comic book characters, namely, Lobo, Black Adam and Shazam. But of these three, his probable portrayal as Lobo and Black Adam, not Shazam, has been his strongest role contenders. Has "The Rock" finally tired of playing the good guy?
Just recently, Screenrant has confirmed his role as Black Adam in the upcoming Shazam movie. The confirmation finally came after the actor has trolled his fans about the roles. Although observers originally speculated that the actor would be Shazam given his appeal with family-oriented films, the producers (and probably "The Rock" himself) thought otherwise.
Before word about his role in the movie came out, though, there was a lot of online buzz about his taking on the role of badass alien bounty hunter Lobo (info from Comic Vine). A year ago, Screenrant reported that the actor has admitted that he was in consideration for playing the titular role in the movie, which the "Matrix" producer Joey Silver and "Journey 2" director Brad Peyton were said to be developing at that time.
However, no updates followed afterwards. This could mean that like other potential character films, Lobo has been frozen in limbo. But in the first quarter of this year, during his interview with iO9, Dwayne has hinted that he "may" still be playing the badass character's role.
But his hinting came to a stop, when he confirmed with the site that he thinks the character is a powerhouse capable of having his on standalone franchise. In the interview, he referred to the character as a "badass motherfucker" possessed with Superman level powers but has never had an adaptation before.
To make a long story short, he did not say directly that he would be playing Lobo.
But if one day the alien bounty hunter becomes a soon-to-be big screen reality, and Dwayne's name comes up once more...It would not be surprising if netizens start speculating again that the "Hercules" actor is turning a new leaf by doing baddie roles like Lobo and Black Adam in "Shazam" movie.
