"Fashion Police" released an update that the show is confirmed to return after the death of its iconic host, Joan Rivers. In an official statement issued by E! Network, as reported by ABC News, reps said the late comedy pioneer "would have wanted the franchise to continue".
The "Fashion Police" update came after the network received the blessing from Joan Rivers' 46-year-old daughter, Melissa Rivers, to officially continue the show. The late comedienne's daughter is also an executive producer of the show.
ABC News published the statement, which read: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Joan Rivers and, for the last two weeks, have turned our attention to honoring her memory on all of our platforms."
The "Fashion Police" update continued: "We have also thought long and hard about what Joan would have wanted as it pertains to the future of Fashion Police. We decided, with Melissa Rivers' blessing, that Joan would have wanted the franchise to continue."
According to ABC News, the show will return in January 2015 when it covers the Golden Globe Awards.
Last week, one of Joan Rivers' co-hosts, Giuliana Rancic, attested to the network's dilemma behind deciding to continue the show.
"They are looking at different scenarios, whether it moves forward or it doesn't," the Italian beauty said. "A lot of that will be up to (Melissa) and how she's feeling and how she decides what she wants to do."
E!Online was one of the first to report about Joan Rivers' news about her cardiac arrest. The "Fashion Police" host reportedly stopped breathing during a minor endoscopic procedure at Yorkville Endoscopy medical clinic.
Joan Rivers passed away in September 4. She was 81 years old.
A report released by Variety earlier this month revealed the "uncertain" future of the late TV host's show "Fashion Police". An official statement was issued by E! Network to temporarily stop the speculations: "Right now we are mourning our beloved Joan. We will respond at a later date with programming updates."
After news broke regarding Joan Rivers' cardiac arrest, the entertainment channel initially announced that "Fashion Police" would take a hiatus, said Variety.
