Dan Aykroyd confirmed that "Ghostbusters 3" is really happening! There have been rumors in the past, but no definite direction yet from the producers. Finally, there have been reports that Paul Feig will direct the sequel and it could be lead by an all-female cast.

During an interview with Alan Carr of Channel 4, the 64-year old actor revealed that the production of the reboot will begin on January 2015. Aykroyd said, "Well, I'm 100% sure that's going to get made." Express UK also reported the veteran actor discussing about the future of the "Ghostbusters".

Dan Aykroyd said, "What I'd like to do is - 30 years on we're into this now - I want to figure out how we can go on for another 30, so the whole team is focused on rebuilding the Ecto - think of Ghostbusters 3 as the Ecto-mobile."

If you've seen Ghostbusters 1 and 2, then you will know what an Ecto is. That's the automobile that Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) bought and restored to become the ride of the Ghostbusters. The actor revealed, "It's in the garage now, there's no motor, no transmission, no breaks... we're going to rebuild the whole Ghostbusters thing into something that's... not a toy, or one sequel or two movies, or a television show."

He added, "It's going to be a whole kind of property that will continue on, so that 30 years from now, a nice talk show host and another Ghostbuster - younger and thinner - will be sitting talking about the 30 year run."

Dan Aykroyd isn't only promoting "Ghostbusters 3", but he also wanted to make the film franchise bigger. The Hollywood Reporter reported the actor saying, "It's beyond just another sequel, a prequel, another TV show. I'm thinking what does the whole brand mean to Sony?" He continued, "What does Pixar and Star Wars mean to Disney? What does Marvel mean to Fox?"

The former SNL host again talked about the Ecto-mobile and said, "The whole vehicle of Ghostbusters has to be rebuilt. That's the ambitious thinking that's going on now. Taking on the model of Marvel where we take all of the elements that are in this movie and we put them out there as different ideas."

Do you think "Ghostbusters 3" can match the upcoming Marvel movies like "Avengers 2" and "Captain America 3"? Can they become more than just a film franchise?
