It's been a busy week for Star Trek fans. One after another, news, rumors, updates and the like have been surfacing about the much awaited third installment of the Star Trek franchise. Now the newest Star Trek 3 news has Trekkies all in a tizzy: William Shatner, the original Captain Kirk himself might have a cameo role in the third film!
If the rumors about Roberto Orci's script are to be believed, then Shatner has been written in and will be appearing once more as Captain James T. Kirk. Even Leonard Nimoy, who is the original Spock will be in the movie, according to the rumor mill. It will be recalled that Nimoy had already had a cameo role in Star Trek: Into Darkness, appearing to his younger Spock self, as played by Zachary Quinto.
Orci, who is writing, as well as directing the third movie, couldn't have given fans a more welcome Star Trek 3 news.
Other exciting news for Star Trek is the confirmation by actor Zachary Quinto that production on the new movie will begin very soon. In fact, the schedule for shooting to start will happen in the next six months.
And in further Star Trek 3 news, TrekMovie.com, has reported that the Star Trek 3 plot will take place during on or after the fifth year that the Enterprise has been in space, quite a long way after the timeframe that the last movie, Star Trek: Into Darkness tackled.
As opposed to the first two Star Trek movies, whose stories tied them closely to the home planet of earth, the Star Trek 3 plot takes our heroes deeper into outer space where they will be bound to encounter aliens and other strange planets. This is in keeping with earlier news that screenwriter Robert Orci has created a story that more in keeping with the theme and plotlines of the original Star Trek TV series.
The Star Trek 3 release date is slated in 2016, which coincides with the original TV series' 50th anniversary. Perfect timing for a William Shatner as Captain Kirk and Leonard Nimoy as Spock reunion, don't you think?
