Dana White comments Wanderlei Silva's NAC punishment

UFC president Dana White knew that Wanderlei Silva has to face the jury for his faults but he didn't expect how stiff the sanctions imposed by the Nevada Athletic commission.

According to White "I didn't see a lifetime ban coming, but probably the worst thing you can do is run from a drug test. You can't run from a drug test."

The NAC has made a decision on his case and had banned the UFC fighter for a lifetime coupled with a $70,000 fine.

Silva was not in attendance when the commission voted unanimously to render judgment but he was represented by his attorney, Ross Goodman.

The case was with regards to when Silva was subject to a random drug screening in Nevada ahead of his scheduled bout with Chael Sonnen at UFC 175, but ran from the testers.

White added "I think he was trying to put up a smoke screen. Look over here because he does it a few days before he's about to go in front of the Nevada State [sic] Athletic Commission. The guy ran from a drug test. ... I've been saying it for a long time that he was going to get something serious."

Last week, Silva announced his retirement from the games and has been pointed out the UFC as one of the key reason why he made the decision.

According to him, when a fighter can't train because of his injuries, he gives a poor performance than expected and the promoters will fire the fighter. And that is what happened with Renan Barao. Barao had to fight 3 fights in 6 months which is very strenuous for a fighter. Barao defended his belt and lost it then had a rematch right away and had to cut down weight for another fight. That is why Barao collapsed before the weight in. And what's worse is that Barao had to face ridicule from the promoters to the point that they even called him a "kid" in front of the media.

Silva said that this caused a revolt in the athletes most specially him. He said "This makes me angry and makes me look at the sport in a different way. They are taking away my desire to fight. I don't feel like fighting anymore when I hear these statements. Seeing how an athlete is treated. I feel that I don't have a dignified stage where the athletes are respected."

"If you're not going to give them money you should at least treat them with respect."

According to White "I've never said a bad thing about Wanderlei Silva in my life. I've always respected the guy and there is no way that guy can ever say that myself or Lorenzo Fertitta ever disrespected him. There's nothing more that needs to be said"
