Ronda Rousey's next fight opponent has been named right after the recently concluded UFC 178 fight card on Saturday night in Las Vegas. Company president Dana White also feels that the next women's title contender deserves the said title shot.
Ronda Rousey's next fight will be against Cat Zingano, who after 17-month lay-off came back strong against Brazilian sensation Amanda Nunes. "Alpha" emerged victorious via third round TKO, as the first main card bout held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The announcement regarding Ronda Rousey's next fight was made by company president Dana White himself, during the UFC 178 post-fight press conference, which was reported by MMA Fighting.
"Yes, yeah, [Zingano]'s in," White said. "This is what I'm assuming, and you guys probably didn't hear it, but she was screaming at me after the fight. She ran over and started screaming, 'do you see me? Do you see me?' Yes, I see you."
"This was the shut-up about Gina Carano I think," he added. "I think that's what Cat, [that's] the statement she wanted to make tonight, and she made it loud and clear."
Ironically, the news about Ronda Rousey's next fight confirmation came about after would-be contender and former Strikeforce stand-out Gina Carano fell out from her pending UFC deal as she chose to focus on pursuing her career as a movie actress.
Zingano, herself, was delighted about the recent turn of events, and also expressed her delight towards her own performance.
"I just think the caliber of athlete, the intensity that I bring," she said. "I feel like I just bring something different to everything. I'm game."
UFC President Dana White, on the other hand, believes that "Alpha" deserves a title shot against the undefeated women's bantamweight champion.
"She's been away for awhile, she had some injuries," White said"She was dealing with some personal problems, but she is back. The fans needed to see her, and she needed to remind everybody why she was in line for a title fight. She did it tonight."
