Dominick Cruz's next fight will be a title shot, after a convincing victory over Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 178 this past weekend. The former UFC bantamweight champion also engaged in a verbal feud with one of his former challengers, Urijah Faber.
Dominick Cruz's next fight against reigning champion TJ Dillashaw was announced by Dana White during the UFC 178 post-fight press conference.
"Nobody does that to Mizugaki, nobody," said White. "[Cruz] didn't lose his belt, I think he was the unluckiest man on earth. He's the guy."
Dominick Cruz's next fight for the title was the product of an almost flawless performance as the headlining preliminary fight for Saturday night's event. After being sidelined for three years due to a string of injuries that eventually led him to drop his then title, "The Dominator" showed that he is still in tip-top shape after finishing his opponent in only a minute.
In a report by MMA Fighting, Cruz admitted that he could not remember anything that transpired during the entire 1:01 of the fight, as he was mainly reliant on his reflexes and muscle memory.
"I don't remember any of that, I as blacked out in there," Cruz admitted. "It looks a lot nice watching that than watching my knee get busted up."
Right after his first victory as a non-champion, Cruz immediately went after current title-holder TJ Dillashaw and the rest of Team Alpha Male.
"I want to get back in there and take out some more Alpha Fails," Cruz added.
The words thrown by Cruz during the post-fight interview immediately got to Urijah Faber, who also offered an instant response.
"Negativity continues 2 boil over 4 Dom. Guys itching 4a whoopn, if @TJDillashaw gets 1st whack DC will only have losses 2 one team AM @ufc," Faber said through Twitter.
Not to be outdone, Cruz also retorted back during a post-fight interview with the FOX Sports 1 panel.
"I think the record that I know Faber for is the most consecutive UFC title tries, and lost," Cruz responded. "That's got to be a record, I think he'd done seven in a row."
"What are you talking about, Faber?" he added. "Come on, man. Sit down."
