TJ Dillashaw's next fight against Dominick Cruz is already starting to heat up as "The Viper" was turned off about the former champion's UFC 178 post-fight comments. The reigning bantamweight champion also revealed that he plans to put "The Dominator" back to retirement.
TJ Dillashaw's next fight against Dominick Cruz was announced right after UFC 178 this past weekend, when Cruz emerged victorious via first round knockout against fellow top contender Takeya Mizugaki.
"Nobody does that to Mizugaki, nobody," UFC Dana White said during the UFC 178 post-fight press conference. "[Cruz] didn't lose his belt, I think he was the unluckiest man on earth. He's the guy."
Cruz's excellent performance caught the attention of mixed martial fans and fighters alike, including that of his former rival Urijah Faber and Team Alpha Male. During his post-fight interview, "The Dominator" reignited the rivalry through some snide comments.
"I want to get back in there and take out some more Alpha Fails," Cruz said.
The comments were made prior to the announcement of TJ Dillashaw's next fight. Rightfully, the champion had no response to Cruz during the time, but teammate Urijah Faber did through his Twitter account.
"Negativity continues 2 boil over 4 Dom. Guys itching 4a whoopn, if @TJDillashaw gets 1st whack DC will only have losses 2 one team AM @ufc," Faber tweeted.
MMA Fighting caught up with Dillashaw on Wednesday, and the champ finally made his response, speaking to correspondent Ariel Helwani.
"I thought he looked good, and I am happy for him to be able to return," Dillashaw said. "I thought his 'Alpha Fail' [line] was a little uncalled for since I've shown nothing but respect, but I'd be happy to put him back in retirement."
The reigning champion also declared that a fight against "The Dominator" had been in his sights for a long time already.
"I'm not complaining because I've wanted to fight him for a long time," he added.
