This "Zombieland 2" movie news may have been slow in coming, but lately, producers have cranked up the speed that they have already started developing the film as proven by their hiring a scriptwriter to pen the sequel's story. Will the sequel prove better than the first, and if so, will they be introducing a new set of characters?

David Callaham, the newly hired scriptwriter, will have to take part of the responsibility for that. Deadline broke the news of his hire in its "Zombieland 2" movie news. He would be working in tandem with returning director Ruben Fleischer and producer Gavin Polone.

Screenrant openly discussed questions about the upcoming sequel in its "Zombieland 2" movie news. First, the site wondered if the original cast composed of Emma Stone, Woodey Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin would be collaborating again for the next installment.

According to the article, if the story would be a continuation of the first, then the original set of characters would have to make a comeback. However, they voiced out concerns in rounding them up again for the sequel. The five-year long hiatus has borne witness to each actor's flourishing in his and her respective career. Given their currently in-demand status, producers may have a hard time securing their participation.

Second, the site raised questions concerning Sony's budget. Despite raking in $100 million in global ticket sales, Screenrant noted that this may or may not have any bearing on the sequel's earning capacity. Thus, they openly suggested that producers could find more favor with selecting a new set of actors by creating a new group of characters for the sequel.

Screenrant noted that creating new characters would not affect the feel of the original story so long as the producers and creators retain the overall tone and manner of execution. So what can fans of the original Zombieland expect from Zombieland 2?

Well, could writer David Callaham, who has lent his imaginative expertise in "Godzilla," "The Expendables" (which he originally entitled "Barrow") and "Jackpot," work enough thrills and laughs into the story of the next franchise? Fans would have to wait and see what he and director Ruben Fleischer will cook up now that development is underway.
