Juan Manuel Marquez's next fight is set for the coming year, as "El Dinamita" is likely to face Timothy "Desert Storm" Bradley or fierce rival Manny Pacquiao in a rematch.
While Juan Manuel Marquez's next fight has no final date as of this posting, Top Rank Promotions chief Bob Arum made the announcement in an interview with ESPN.
"Juan Manuel will sit out the rest of this year and then back in action in the first four months of next year," Arum said speaking about Juan Manuel Marquez's next fight.
The 41-year old Mexican boxing veteran last saw action in May, against the gritty Mike "Mile High" Alvarado. "El Dinamita" went on to win the fight via unanimous decision, bagging the WBO International welterweight title in the process.
Throughout his 21-year career, Marquez has faced the toughest opposition, including four grueling fights against Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather, Juan "Baby Bull" Diaz, Marco Antonio Barrera, and Joel Casamayor, among others.
His most recent bouts against Pacquiao and Bradley may have shown that age is beginning to catch up to him, and Bob Arum a is fully in agreement for the Mexican fighter's decision to take the rest of the year off.
"Marquez is taking off the rest of the year and that is fine. He's an older fighter. For him to take a rest is smart. But he will be back."
Arum also announced that "El Dinamita" might face either "Pacman" or "Desert Storm" for his 2015 comeback.
While it was revealed in the same report that the fifth Pacquiao vs. Marquez fight was supposedly slated for this year, "Pacman" chose to face undefeated light welterweight champion Chris Algieri instead.
However, Arum is not closing his doors on the said fight, and has also put a second Timothy Bradley match on the table.
"He could fight a rematch with Bradley. He could also fight another fight with Manny. He could go a lot of ways," Arum said.
