Singer Courtney Love will be starring in an opera titled "Kansas City Choir Boy" with composer Todd Almond.
Courtney Cox will be carrying the upcoming two-man show, which has been described as a "contemporary marriage of pop and opera," with Almond.
"When I say 'opera,' I don't mean it's in an operatic style. I mean it in the sense that it's a group of songs that tell a story. I write musicals, I write plays and I write what I call opera, which I think of as a form that opens the minds of both the performers and the listeners," Todd Almond explained to the New York Times.
Almond reportedly told the Times that he was a huge fan of Courtney Love's work with her band Hole, and that he decided to send her the music for the show as he was developing the prodution with director Kevin Newbury, according to Gulf News.
The show will be "about a man and a woman in love in the Midwest," according to Almond.
The composer added, "But then the woman sees something on the horizon that makes her realize that she has a greater destiny, and she follows that."
"Kansas City Choir Boy" will be shown at New York's "Prototype: Opera/Theater/Now Festival" from January 8 to 17, according to the website Radio.com. Love will reportedly star in 10 performances over that time.
The songwriter expressed that she's excited about going the opera route during an interview with Rolling Stone.
"I love the concept, and I'm loving the music. I'm playing it constantly. I'm looking to do things that are different. I just finished a rock tour of Australia, and it was great, but I've been doing that for a long time. I wanted to do something challenging," stated Love.
