NBA Trade Rumors: OKC Closing In On A Deal For Rajon Rondo? Can Rondo And Westbrook Backcourt Tandem Actually Work?

Will The Rajon Rondo saga finally come to an end? The Boston Celtics Star is rumored to be nearing to finding a place to call home. The question of him leaving the Celtics is not about "if" or "when" but "where?"

Of course, there are the usual suspects: ambitious teams with tons of money that lack a franchise point guard-the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Houston Rockets. But Rondo's versatility allows him to play with other franchise point guards-take Russell Westbrook for instance.

The transaction was explored in the Celtics Blog wherein Rondo was the subject matter:

"The Thunder could be one to watch. They have pieces to shed in a sign-and-trade, and a Russell Westbrook-Rondo backcourt would be fascinating. Might not work financially, but it's a possibility. Charlotte has young pieces to offer and they've been slowly building toward making that one big move that pushes them to the next level. Not sure it's Rondo, but he would be an upgrade. Dallas has pursued pretty much any big-time free agent it can, I would assume they'd at least express interest.

It's all speculation at this point, but I would not rule out teams simply because they won't have cap space or they already have a decent point guard."

In the discussion, however, they ruled out a trade with Phoenix for Eric Bledsoe. Fans thought it was an easy, obvious decision, but Sean Deveney of Sporting News says:

"Phoenix (would say no). They're going to commit to Goran Dragic next summer, and if they move Bledsoe, it is because they don't really want to keep going with the two-PG experiment anymore. A Bledsoe-Dragic backcourt seems a lot more feasible than a Rondo-Dragic backcourt, doesn't it? Especially if you're paying about $31 million per year for a Rondo-Dragic backcourt."

They did not discuss who the Celtics would take, but it could be anyone from the Thunder except Kevin Durant, Wesbrook and Serge Ibaka. Reggie Jackson or Jeremy Lamb could be taken to replace Rondo's spot and the Celtics could also take an interest in Steven Adams, among other possibilities.

Will a big four of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Serge Ibaka, and Rajon Rondo finally deliver a championship to Oklahoma City?
