Michel Phelps Suspended For Bad Conduct, Will Sit Out Of U.S. Swimming World Champinoships in 2015 Ahead Of Rio Olympics
According to the latest news reports Michael Phelps was suspended from U.S. swimming for drinking and driving. This is not his first DUI booking. In 2004, when he was 19, Phelps committed the same mistake.
After a brief retirement of two years, Phelps decided to make a come back to team US, won three goldsand two silvers at the Pan Pacific Championships.
After his suspension, Phelps will not take part in the swimming World Championships scheduled for Kazan, Russia in April 6.2015. The Kazan prep is a preliminary test ahead of the Rio Olympics.
By any standards, Phelps is the most celebrated Olympian on the U.S. squad, but the conduct issue has come back to haunt him. He had previously been caught DUI in September, when Phelps was pulled over for speeding and crossing double lanes at the Fort McHenry Tunnel on I-95.
Phelps said after the suspension, ""Swimming is a major part of my life, but right now I need to focus my attention on me as an individual, and do the necessary work to learn from this experience and make better decisions in the future," USA Today Reports.
The swimmer will go back to treatment. Phelps' DUI suspension will give him some time to clean up his bad habits during the six months he is off, and will come back on April 6, 2015.
Phelps made history with "22 medals from the 2004, 2008, and 2012 Olympics. He retired after the London Games, where he won four golds, but began training last fall and officially returned to competition in April." said an online report.
