Miley Cyrus’ VMA Date Violated Probation By Attending Music Awards In California

Singer Miley Cyrus brought 22-year-old Jesse Helt to the MTV Video Music Award two months ago, bringing attention to homeless youth.

Helt, who accepted an award on behalf of the "Wrecking Ball" singer and gave an informative speech on youth homelessness, reportedly received a six-month jail sentence today for violating his probation, according to the Associated Press.

Jesse Helt was reportedly arrested back in 2010 for "criminal mischief" as well as other charges in Oregon and pleaded guilty/no contest to the charges, ultimately receiving probation. Helt's recent visit to California to attend the VMAs was reportedly a violation of his probation and the publicity from his appearance was what brought his past to light, according to Fox News.

He initially reportedly violated the probation a year after his arrest, according to ABC News.

As news surfaced of Helt's past record, Miley Cyrus took to Twitter to defend her friend.

"People who are homeless have lived very hard lives. Jesse included. I hope that this can be the start of a national conversation about youth homelessness and how to end it," Cryus wrote on her social media count.

After the warrant for Helt's arrest was made public, he reportedly turned himself in, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Helt reportedly asked Judge Monte Campbell for leniency, stating that he'd "like to be viewed as a good person, not as a nuisance to society."
