It's an exciting time when movies we all loved in the 1990s are all staging a comeback for our viewing pleasure here in 2014 and beyond. It's already been announced that the Jurassic Park sequel, Jurassic World, is a go. And now, we have exciting news about an Independence Day 2 movie.

In an interview with Time magazine, actor Jeff Goldblum (if you will recall, he played David Levinson in the movie) revealed that he is already in negotiations with producer Dean Devlin and director Roland Emmerich to star in the upcoming Independence Day 2 movie.

In his own words for the Time magazine interview, Goldblum says, "Nebulous until actually' is what that file is under, but yeah, they're still talking about it and I've heard recent rumblings here and there about it, and 'Oh, there's a scripting coming in' - maybe last weekend there was a script handed in, so it's brewing."

In any case, 20th Century Fox is reportedly eyeing a July 2016 Independence Day 2 release date, with plenty of actors reprising their original roles. One of the actors coming back will be Bill Pullman, who played US presidents slash fighter pilot Thomas Whitmore.

But as early as last year, an Independence Day 2 news surfaced that one of the most beloved characters in the original film, Captain Steven Hiller, played by the always endearing Will Smith won't be back to reprise his role.

Director Roland Emmerich has shared with the NY Daily News why the actor won't be back for Independence Day 2. "Will Smith can not come back because he's too expensive, but he'd also be too much of a marquee name. It would be too much. We have like maybe half of the people that you know and would know from the first film (in the script) and the other half, people who are new.

So who exactly are the old and new cast members of the Independence Day 2 movie? Stay tuned!
