American professional baseball first baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals was the cause of Los Angeles Dodgers Clayton Kershaw's despair. The Cardinal beat the Dodgers 2-3 having the Cardinals win the series 3-1.
Matt Adams could not contain his happiness has he hop and puff to his home run trot as he approached first base.
Kreshaw was shocked over the loss and all he could do was to watch the St. Louis march to a fourth straight NL Championship Series.
According to Adams "Some people are calling it the Big City Leap. I was just super-excited, I didn't know what I was doing ... I knew I was jumping for joy."
The Cardinals had Kershaw in the seventh inning for the second straight time, riding Adams' go-ahead, three-run homer to a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday for a 3-1 win in the best-of-five Division Series.
Adams added "'I don't think I touched the ground the whole way around the bases. Definitely the highlight of my career. ... I will never, ever forget this."
On the other hand, Kershaw was disappointed over their loss. He said "The season ended and I was a big part of the reason why. I can't really put it into words, Just bad deja vu all over again."
Cardinal's starter Shelby Miller was also extatic for their win saying "It was awesome, everything we did throughout that game. It was a heck of a game and a lot of fun, I know that."
Kershaws performance for his October games was all over the place. His chance to win his third NL Cy Young Award in four years is on the line.
He said "I've had success against them, too. It just seems like one inning gets me every time. And obviously that's not success."
Los Angeles catcher catcher A.J. Ellis said that their performance were not at par saying "It's awful. It's devastating. It just kind of rehashes those old memories."
Even Manager Don Mattingly wasn't about to second-guess leaving Kershaw in the game. He said "'It goes back to the same question: Is there anybody better, even on short rest, and even where he was at that point?"
