'Popeye' Movie News: 3D Film Animation Adaptation's Release Date Tentatively Set For 2016; [WATCH] Test 3D Footage Of Classical Cartoon Unleashed

Variety revealed the CGI-animated test footage of the upcoming "Popeye" Movie. Watch the video below:

"Popeye" is a classical cartoon. The upcoming Popeye movie will be a 3D adaptation of the classic cartoon franchise. The director of this project is Gennadiy Borisovich Tartakovsky, who handled cartoon projects such as "Dexter Laboratory", "Hotel Transylvania", and "Samurai Jack". As per IMBD, the "Popeye" movie release date is set for 2016. However, the exact date is not yet confirmed.

In the video, director Gennadiy Borisovich Tartakovsky mentioned that the CGI-animated test footage is not a clip nor a tralier. The scene is not in the actual movie, But this test is something that they want to do.

Variety noticed that "Popeye" has no pipe and tattoos in the test video. Moreover, the video focuses on Popeye's fighting scene with Bluto to save Olive Oyl.

Before the actual CGI-footage test, the video shows first behind-the-scene clips of Tartakovsky while working on the adaptation of the popular classical cartoon. He explains why he was "destined" to make the film.

The cast hasn't been announced yet and the script is still in the works. According to the publication, Tartakovsky used temp voices for the test footage.

Meanwhile, Slash Film said that Tartakovsky wants the new version of the classical movie to focus on origin story and include classic characters like Bluto, the Sea Hag, Wimpy, Olive Oyl, Popeye's dad, and Eugene the Jeep.

Apart from "Popeye" movie project, Tartakovsky will also helm the "Hotel Transylvania 2" , which is set to hit theaters on Sept. 25, 2015. The major casts such as Adam Sandler and Selena Gomez have reprised their roles!
