We may not have seen much of this actor these days. And recently, it was reported that he won't be back to reprise his role in one of the biggest movies of his career: Independence Day. So fans are hankering for the next set of Will Smith movies because of his noticeable absence. But today some good news about the actor's upcoming film projects. The trailer for Focus was just released today, and Will Smith is definitely back!
Directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, this new Will Smith movie also has Margot Robbie (The Wolf Of Wall Street) in a starring role. The two play con artists with a complex backstory, which makes things rather interesting when they find themselves together again. It has been described as a "comedy caper love story," and the movie considered two pairs of actors before finally casting Will Smith and Margot Robbie. Originally, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone were suppose to be the leads, and then Ben Affleck and Kristen Stewart were also considered.
But at one look at the Focus trailer rests all doubts that the perfect casting choice has been made. In the typical Will Smith movies, the actor plays a funny, sly and smooth protagonist, and it's the same here. Smith plays an expert con artist named Nicky, who becomes a sort of mentor for the amateur thief Jess (Margot Robbie), but things don't work out for the relationship of the two. Fastforward to three years later, and now Jess has become so good at what she does, that conflict and complicated events ensue for Nicky.
According to co-director John Requa, it was first difficult to find an actress to play off Will Smith's charisma and dominance on the screen. As with most of Will Smith's movies, the actor just steals every scene he is in. But Margot Robbie proved that she could hold her own against the Men In Black actor. "Margot walked in and just put everybody on their heels," Requa shares. "When she walked out of the room, Will turned to us and said, 'Mmhm.'"
The movie will hit theaters on February 7, in the meantime catch the trailer of this latest Will Smith movie here:
