The pilot episode opens with Barry's voice: "You have to believe the impossible." Suddenly, a red blur races through Central City and Barry says "There I am", though the viewers didn't see anything.
Flashback 14 years ago: Barry is trying to escape from the bullies. Then he's talking with his parents, complaining that he isn't fast enough. He is awakened by noises. He sees red and yellow lights covering his mother. He hears her saying "Don't let him touch". Barry is transported several blocks away from the house.
Present day: A crime scene investigator, he comes late to the crime scene but he is able to identify the getaway car basing on tire tracks. Iris West visits and asks him if they can go to STAR Labs to see the new particle accelerator. Fast forward, the new particle accelerator malfunctions due to storm and sudden surge of energy. In Barry's place, a bolt of energy strikes him and there, viewers see The Flash!
Nine months after, Barry wakes up from coma. Dr. Wells tries to explain his condition and the misdiagnosis. They want to do more examinations but he just wants to see Iris. Barry disarms a man at a speed even he can't believe. He starts to see himself running very fast.
The rest of the premiere episode saw the STAR Lab crew testing his speed, Barry thinking that the person responsible for the death of his mother is someone like him, Iris begging him not to tell her dad about her and Thawne secretly dating, and Barry going after Mardon, who is able to escape as he creates a thick fog. Mardon becomes powerful and he thinks he is god. They fought. Det. West shot Mardon.
The Flash races all over the city to save people. The episode ends with Dr. Wells reading a paper that says "Flash Missing, City in Crisis". Dr. Wells seems to smile with the news.
