Did Anne Hathaway’s ‘Pointy Nipple’ Oscar Dress Lead To Career Downfall?: Actress Explains ‘Hathahate’

Anne Hathway, who disappeared from the spotlight for nearly a year, is back with an explanation for everything.

The actress first made sure to address the buzz created around her pink Prada Oscar dress, which got its own Twitter handle called "Hathwaynipple" after the awards ceremony.

When the "Interstellar" actress came to realize that her "Les Miserables" co-star Amanda Seyfried was wearing a "lilac version" of a Valentino dress she had previously picked out, she reportedly decided to opt for her now infamous-dress, according to the NY Daily News.

"I was like, 'Wow! I can do this. It's beautiful. It's appropriate. It's modern. It's minimal," she stated during her interview with Harper's Bazaar.

She added, "I look in the mirror, turn to Adam (her husband), and says 'It looks like my nipples are hard.' He says, 'You look beautiful. Your nipples look pointy. The red carpet's about to close. We gotta go."

It was in that Oscar dress that the "Hathahate" began to surface as Anne Hathaway wasn't the most liked or supported during that awards season when she won for her supporting actress role in "Les Miserables."

Hathaway reportedly admitted that she was "shocked, slapped and embarrassed" as she noticed she was being hated by former fans after she googled herself, only to find an article titled, "Why does everyone hate Anne Hathaway?"

"Even now I can feel the shame," stated Hathaway.

"The Devil Wears Prada" star explained that this "Hathahate" even costed her roles, creating somewhat of a dent in her acting career.

"I had directors say to me, 'I think you're great. You're perfect for this role, but I don't know how audiences will accept you because of all this stuff, this baggage," she stated.

Despite the backlash she received, Hathaway has yet to backdown as her new film, "Interstellar," with Matthew McConaughey is set to hit theaters November 5.

"What are we supposed to do - pretend like it didn't happen? People treated me a certain way. But I've grown from it. This whole thing has made me a way more compassionate and loving person. And I don't feel sorry for myself," stated Hathaway, according to Entertainment Weekly.
