"The Walking Dead" child actor Chandler Riggs is fighting against evil forces along with "Super 8" actor Joel Courtney in a movie adaptation "Mercy", based on Stephen King's short story "Gramma".
Horror film "Mercy", directed by Peter Cornwell, is about the two young boys who discover disturbing phenomena when they and their mother Rebecca (Frances O' Connor) move to the house of their severely ill grandmother, Mercy. As they move to their grandmother's 150-year-old farmhouse, they unlock the family's secrets when they have found a mysterious book, which seems a portal of evil spirits. This makes George (Riggs) and Buddy McCoy (Courtney) suspect that their grandmother has encountered an evil spirit.
Riggs, best known for his portrayal of Carl Grimes in AMC's "The Walking Dead", has to face dark, evil spirits to save their lives along with his brother Buddy, played by Courtney.
"Mercy" promises a terrifying 79-minute film that would scare viewers and is loaded with scenes that would jolt you in your seat. In a review on Cinema Slasher by Blair Hoyle, he said, "Some of the CGI is a little cartoonish, but the practical effects work is extremely successful. The opening scene in particular is exceptionally brutal, with a barbaric use of an axe immediately setting the dark tone of the film."
He also added, "Unlike many of the recent Stephen King adaptations, there is a very King vibe throughout 'Mercy'. The themes of love and family are ever-present, and the supernatural overtones are executed in a way that doesn't feel hokey or out of place. All of the build-ups are proceeded by payoffs, and the ending is as satisfying as possible."
In Riggs' Facebook Page, most netizens said that they can't wait to see him in the film, expressing their excitement on his new project outside the TV series, "The Walking Dead".
The film will hit theaters on October 21.
