It is official: "The Mortal Instruments" movie (now TV series) would be coming back; however, this time, the tale would continue on the little screen, not the big screen anymore.
The delay, as it turned out, was not in the production of the TV series, but in the production of the second movie franchise that was borne of the original franchise's lackluster performance at the box office, reported IGN. Although talks heard through the grapevine hinted at a continuation of the second movie franchise, the latest declaration of the "The Mortal Instruments" movie turned TV series pretty much, seals the deal.
The Hollywood Reporter said that Constatin Film, studio that owns legal rights to Cassandra Clare's best-selling YA novel series and producer of the original cinema franchise "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones," will take charge of the "The Mortal Instruments" movie turned TV series production.
The studio has appointed writer-producer Ed Detecter of "The Client List" fame as showrunner. As of press time, discussions about how the creators and producers will approach and execute the TV series are ongoing. Actual production is slated to commence in 2015. However, they have not yet declared anything about the exact network where the show would air.
Martin Moscowicz, Constatin movie and TV head, told The Hollywood Reporter that launching the franchise as a TV series poses more advantages. He said:
"It actually makes sense to do (the novels) as a TV series. There was so much from the book that we had to leave out of the Mortal Instruments film. In the series we'll be able to go deeper and explore this world in greater detail and depth."
"The Mortal Instruments" book series follows the tale of Clary Fray who discovers that she is descended from a line of angel-human hybrids called the Shadowhunters. Her drastic discovery occured after her mother's sudden disappearance. She then finds out that she belongs to a chosen group of human race defenders, appointed to vanquish inter-dimensional parasites called demons (CassandraClare.com).
