The University of Buffalo has dismissed head football coach Jeff Quinn effective immediately. This was announced by athletics director Danny White. The dismissal came in after the Bulls lost over to Eastern Michigan in a 37-27 final score.
According to White "It is with great disappointment that we have to make this change. Unfortunately, the performance on the field this season and over Coach Quinn's tenure has not matched our expectations for the growth of Bulls football. With the bye week, our coaches and student-athletes have an opportunity to evaluate themselves and make the changes needed to improve. We have some very talented and hard-working student athletes on this team and we hope this change shifts the course of the 2014 season."
Whit expressed his gratitude towards Quinn's effort for the team in his last four seasons with them. He said "On behalf of UB Athletics, I thank Jeff for his service to the University and to the football program. Jeff and his wife, Shannon, have been great supporters of the University at Buffalo. We wish them well in their future pursuits."
Because of this change of event, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Alex Wood will serve as interim coach for the remainder of the season.
White continued "We will continue focusing on the success of our student-athletes and working with the team to complete a successful season. We have a veteran squad and there is still a lot to play for this season. We will move forward together."
Quinn's record at UB was 20-36. His first three campaigns at UB were losing seasons - 2-10, 3-9 and 4-8.
Before he hired by Buffalo In order to replace Turner Gill, Quinn spent 21 years as an assistant under Brian Kelly at Cincinnati, Central Michigan and Grand Valley State.
White has had little patience in making changes at Buffalo since taking over as athletic director in May 2012.
Aside from Quinn, in less than a year ago, he also fired long-time men's basketball coach Reggie Witherspoon and made a national splash by replacing him with former Duke star point guard Bobby Hurley.
