Amanda Bynes was hospitalized on Friday at a Los Angeles treatment facility and is expected to stay there for a while as doctors were able to get the initial 72-hour psychiatric hold extended by 14 days, according to TMZ.
In the midst of all the Amanda Bynes drama, it's been revealed that the mastermind behind getting the former child star the help she needs might be Britney Spears' former "confidante" Sam Lutfi, who reportedly managed the pop star during her public breakdown during the fall of 2008, according to Fox News.
Before she was hospitalized, Lutfi reportedly convinced Bynes to return to Los Angeles so she could sue her parents. However, rather than take her to a lawyer's office, Lutfi reportedly took the actress to the mental facility she is currently in.
Amanda Bynes had posted a message for Lutfi on Twitter, writing, "you feel like a brother to me @SamLutfi i mean it. Thank you luuv."
Lutfi also posted a rather reassuring message on Twitter the day Amanda Bynes was hospitalized.
"Thanks Richard @famousrichard @PerezHilton. She's in good hands now. Many thanks to all those that helped along the way #getwellAB," tweeted Lutfi.
Many became increasingly concerned over the mental state of Amanda Bynes after she made a series of disturbing posts on her Twitter account accusing her father, Rick Bynes, of sexually abusing her. She later deleted the tweets, and wrote, "My dad never did any of those things."
The 28-year-old's mother, Lynn Bynes, spoke publicly about the shocking allegations in a statement, saying she was "heartbroken."
Bynes' siblings, Jillian O'Keefe and Tommy Bynes, spoke on the matter as well, stating through their attorney Tamar Arminak, "We are disturbed beyond words that Amanda would come up with such a fabrication as a way to avoid getting much needed help or treatment."
Amanda Bynes' parents are now at least a little comforted knowing that their daughter is in a "safe" place.
"They're happy she's safe and that Amanda is finally getting some help," a source told People magazine.
