Jang Hyuk has follow-up plans for his successful comedy "Fated To Love You," which co-starred Jang Nara. First he plans to star in a one-episode drama titled "Old Goodbye." After that he is considering a role in a fusion historical drama titled "Shine Or Go Crazy."
His agency, Sidus HQ, told Newsen that he is positively considering the role.
"Shine Or Go Crazy" is the story of a fictional prince named Wang So. The prince is troubled by a prophecy that states his rule will bring bloodshed to his kingdom. He wants to protect his kingdom but has no idea how to thwart the prophecy. His romantic partner in this drama is a fictional princess named Shin Yul.
Oh Yeon Seo, who won acclaim for her acting skills in the successful weekend drama "Jang Bo Ri Is Here," is considering playing the royal role. Shin Yul is a princess who has everything except a kingdom. She's smart and sweet and brave. So, naturally the troubled prince falls for her.
"Shine Or Go Crazy" would not be Jang Hyuk's first historical drama as he appeared in "Chuno" and "Deep-Rooted Tree." The actor is talented at just about every genre of drama but some fans say he has a special flair for historical dramas.
Historical dramas do give him a chance to demonstrate his exceptional martial arts skills. He is a long-time practitioner of a form of martial arts known as Jeet Kune Do and he is a former professional Taekwondo athlete.
His historical roles have been tragic characters. He made viewers laugh when he played the occasionally silly Lee Gun in "Fated To Love You" but his historical roles demonstrated his skill at making viewers cry. When he played Lee Daegil in the historical drama Chuno, his performance inspired plenty of heartfelt tears. His character Daegil was a man from a noble family who became a slave hunter so he could survive and wage revenge. He played the spunky and stubborn Ddolbock in "Tree With Deep Roots." That character was also a slave who vows to avenge the death of his loved ones.
Besides "Fated To Love You," this year the actor also appeared in the film "Innocent Thing." In 2013 he was seen in the drama "Iris II" and the film "The Flu."
"Shine Or Go Crazy" will follow "Pride and Prejudice," which follows "Night Watchmen." It will air in January.
