Chris Weidman news features the UFC middleweight champion's heroic deed of saving a 94-year old woman's life. "All-American" also admitted that he has gained deeper respect for paramedics, whom he considers as society's unsung heroes.
Weidman narrated the entire ordeal in an interview with MMAFighting. He explains that the incident happened on Thursday afternoon along his residence in Garden City, New York, when an elderly woman was involved in an accident in her garage.
According to the UFC middleweight champion, while he did hear the woman shouting for assistance from his house, which was a few blocks away, he did not deem it as an urgent matter immediately. He only realized the importance of the situation when he drove straight to the house and heard the incessant cries for help.
"She getting soaking wet," Weidman narrated. "So I jump out of the car and I run over to her, and she's bleeding everywhere. All over the place. I run over, she drops her phone and begs, 'Help me! Help me!'"
Chris Weidman news reveals that while he did call 911 for help, it was not immediately heeded. This led him to take matters into his own hands and seek help from a friend who happened to be a police officer.
"So I was there, trying to have her talk about normal things to distract her, but she's saying, 'I wanted to live one more year! I wanted to live one more year,'" he continued. "I'm telling her, 'You're fine! You're fine! You're not dying today! You're going to be fine! People are coming right now, they're going to take you and stitch up your head, you're going to be fine! You're not dying!'"
Chris Weidman news also reveals that while paramedics had eventually taken in the woman, her condition as of this posting is still uncertain. But the UFC fighter admitted that his appreciation for the people who came to the rescue had deepened.
"What the paramedics do, they're so calm and they're doing that everyday," he added. "They're doing that on a daily basis. They're the heroes and no one is hearing about it. I just happened to be at the right place, right time."
