'Divergent' star Miles Teller will potray a jazz drummer pushed to the edge in a prestigious music school in 'Whiplash.' The movie is set to hit theaters on October 23.
According to an interview with Hollywood Reporter, he won't be letting go of music after 'Whiplash.'
The Wrap previously reported that the 'That Awkward Moment' actor will be starring alongside 'Harry Potter' alum Emma Watson in a musical love story. 'La La Land' will also be directed by 'Whiplash' helmer Damien Chazelle.
Teller will play a jazz pianist while Watson will play an aspiring actress.
"At its core, this is a movie about artists in love-and what it means to be an artist in love in arguably the most competitive city on the planet," Chazelle told The Wrap about the project.
He added, "How do you juggle the need to find success as an artist with the need to share oneself with another human being? And how do you do so in a place where every poster, every street corner and every sign remind you of the glories just beyond reach?"
He further said, "By casting an affectionate eye on a pair of young hopefuls, while aspiring to the kind of full-fledged romanticism you hardly ever see in today's movies, I hope to capture the spirit of the city I now call home, and make a movie that feels both classical and urgent-and, yes, intrinsically L.A."
Miles Teller also shared his thoughts about the new project to Hollywood Reporter. He compared 'La La Land' to 'Whiplash' saying, "Where 'Whiplash' looks at all the pain and the torture and the fear and the anxiety that come with performing music, this one looks at the joy and the love that you get from it."
To prepare for the role, the 'Spectacular Now' star will start rehearsals on February "to achieve a Gene Kelly-kinda vibe."
Miles Teller will also play world champion Vinny Pazienza in the boxing-themed movie, 'Bleed For This.'
