Woman Spends Six Hours In Jail For Messy Yard

Karen Holloway, a resident of Lenoir City, Tennessee, had to spend six hours in a jail cell for failing to keep her yard in accordance with the standards that are set by the city, according to Yahoo News.

Holloway, who works a full-time job and has two children living at home and a husband in school, had been given a warning about her yard previously. She was reportedly sent a citation for the overgrown grass and bushes in her yard last summer.

"The bushes and trees were overgrown. But that's certainly not a criminal offense," stated Holloway.

When the woman still didn't tend to her yard, Judge Terry Vann reportedly handed down a five-day jail sentence to Holloway last week for refusing to comply with the city ordinances regarding yard maintenance. Holloway reportedly stated that she fell behind on cleaning her yard because of personal family issues, according to The Huffington Post.

Holloway stood in front of the court on Tuesday and her sentence was reduced to six hours.

"It's not right. Why would you put me in jail with child molesters and people who've done real crime, because I haven't maintained my yard," stated Holloway.

She also reportedly stated that she felt "bullied" during the process because she was never read her rights or told that she could have a lawyer present.

Holloway has reportedly reached out to friends and family to keep her yard clean. She'll reportedly be back in court for a follow-up hearing in November and might have to spend more jail time if the city isn't satisfied with the progress.
