American mixed martial artist and UFC welterweight Neil Magny will face Brazilian William Macario on Oct. 25 in Rio de Janeiro at UFC 179. This is his fifth bout in less than a calendar year.
Magny knows how it feels to have won and lost. He won his debut at UFC 157 then got submitted by Sergio Moraes at UFC 163 on Aug. 3, 2013, and losing a three-round decision to Seth Baczynski at Fight for the Troops 3 on Nov. 6, 2013.
If he loses this game, then there is a possibility of being cut off. That is how important this match is for him.
Magny said "I really doubted myself a great deal early on."
After losing to Baczynski, Magny lost his trust in his ability and his confidence. He said "Personally, my faith is what helped me to get through it when I lost those two fights in a row. I started questioning my whole MMA career. I began to wonder whether I should hang it up and pursue a career in law enforcement."
He adds "I prayed on it and after a while, I just came to believe that I needed to put all of my efforts into making it in the UFC and making it as an MMA fighter. Part of it was not having self-doubt or second-guessing myself."
But now, Magny is making great improvements and have even fought five games in a year. He said "If you would have asked me last year if I'd have fought four times in the UFC and won all four, I'd have said, 'Oh, you're crazy. That's not going to happen,'" Magny said. "I've got the faith and belief in myself that I can do the job now and it's worked to my benefit, obviously."
According to Magny, he had a hard time when he met Brazilian, Moraes.
He said "It was nerve-wracking to fight in a foreign country for the first time and I let it get the best of me. I put too much thought and emphasis on it. But I've learned from that and it's not a problem for me any longer."
