Royce Gracie news features "The Godfather of MMA" as he criticized the UFC's Brazilian fighters for "lacking strategy" in the cage. The UFC legend, however, made an exception for Fabricio Werdum, whom he openly praised.

Royce Gracie's claim to fame was his introduction of the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to the world when he first fought at the UFC's debut event in 1993. As frail-looking 170-pound Brazilian, he rose above the competition, defeating heavyweight fighters such as former boxer Art Jimmerson and UFC Hall-of-Famer Ken Shamrock.

Since his retirement from competition in 2007, Gracie has remained focused in teaching and further spreading Jiu-Jitsu to the rest of the world. In his recent interview with MMA Fighting, the representative of the famed Gracie clan discussed his qualms about the recent crop of Brazilian fighters.

"A fighter does jiu-jitsu, boxing or kickboxing his whole life, and then he wants to do something else in the ring," Gracie explained. "If you trained jiu-jitsu his whole life, why would you trade punches on fight night against a striker?"

Royce Gracie news reveals that the 47-year old Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend believes that Brazilian fighters are not using the correct strategy in their fights today.

"People outside (of Brazil) knows how to work with strategy really well," he continued. "You have to know your opponent and take him out of his game. It might look easy at the end, but he trained really hard to make you do this, make this wrong step, and then knock you out in 30 seconds. That's strategy. I think (Brazilian fighters) are lacking that."

Royce Gracie news also reveals that the first ever UFC champion made an exception in his criticisms, as he praised fellow Brazilian and current heavyweight title contender, Fabricio Werdum.

"Werdum is good, is a smart fighter," he added. "He knows how to set up a beautiful strategy. He's showed that already. But that's only one way to find out if he's going to win: getting inside the Octagon and fighting."
