Nicole Kidman's father's death "shattered" the family as the "Grace of Monaco" star admitted to struggling with the unexpected loss.
"We're pretty shattered right now. Nobody can prepare you for it," she told the Sydney Morning Herald. "It was awful. It's been a pretty rocky road for the past month."
With Nicole Kidman's father's death, Nicole Kidman went back to her hometown along with Keith Urban and their daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith. Dr. Antony Kidman was buried at the St. Francis Xavier Church at the Lavender Bay last September 19.
"A lot of the huge landmarks in my life have happened there. My wedding, my father's funeral, all my childhood, obviously," she said.
After the "Grace of Monaco" turned out to be a huge flop, which was painful in itself, Nicole Kidman's father's death only made her realize her priorities.
The 47-year-old actress is trying to pick up the pieces as she starts promoting her latest film "Before I Go to Sleep" alongside Colin Firth. She making films is a gamble so she has to forge on.
"I will never not keep trying. That's something my father taught me very early on. And it's an important part of someone artistically - you try things," she added.
In another interview with Mama Mia, she said that Keith Urban has proven himself in the wake of NIcole Kidman's father's death.
"He has been such a rock for me, through everything, particularly the last few weeks. He's just been divine; so full of love and support, as have my children, as has my sister and my mum, we've been through a lot," she told the magazine.
Nicole Kidman added: "We've really had to lean on each other and support each other and hold each other close. But having small children and having Keith has been just wonderful. To hold onto Sunny and Faith, I just feel so glad that I was able to have them. It took a long time to get there but I have a 6-year-old and a 3-year-old and this really, really great guy. I'm lucky."
