Floyd Mayweather news reveals Floyd Sr. turning down the mere possibility of his son facing WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. The elder Mayweather also wants his son to challenge Rocky Marciano's record before calling it quits.
Mayweather Jr. is no stranger to facing fighters whose natural weights are above the 147-pound welterweight limit. Fighters like Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez, who are currently competing at the 160 and 154-pound weight divisions respectively, have shared the ring and have been beaten by the pound-for-pound boxing king.
Floyd Mayweather news reveals that "Money" is now being paired up against hard-hitting WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, in which his father immediately objected to. For the elder Mayweather, "it makes no sense."
"No man, that makes no damn sense," Mayweather Sr. told Hustle Boss. "He's 160-pounds, and then he got to trim down to make weight any way. So that's more weight he got on him."
Mayweather Jr. is currently down to the last two bouts of his lucrative six-fight deal with the Showtime cable network. As of this posting, there is no news about when "Money's" next fight will be and who he will be up against next, but the 2014 highest paid athlete did reveal a revamp amongst the members of "The Money Team."
Floyd Mayweather news also reveals that the elder Mayweather is looking for his son to challenge, and even break the undefeated win-loss slate held by heavyweight legend Rocky Marciano. "The Brockton Blockbuster" banners a 49-0 record, with 43 wins by knockout.
Mayweather, on the other hand, is three victories shy of surpassing Marciano.
"I hope that my son fights, I hope he gets out and leaves it alone, or maybe at the most, he could challenge the record of (Rocky) Marciano," the 62-year old former boxer said. "I think Marciano has 49 fights. That wouldn't be bad if he chose to challenge Marciano's record."
