Daniel Radcliffe in "Frankenstein" movie surprises fans by taking on the role of Igor, the hunchbacked assistant of Dr. Frankenstein who was instrumental in helping him create the iconic monster brought to life in Mary Shelley's classic horror novel.
What distinguishes the new version from its (many) predecessors is the focus of its plot: the man behind the monster's creation Victor Frankenstein himself, reported Entertainment Weekly. On top of that, Daniel Radcliffe in "Frankenstein" movie has made noticeable changes via "additions" to his appearance in order to fit his character.
Although it was not specified whether Daniel Radcliffe in "Frankenstein" movie had to use certain prosthetics (or cushions?) added to his back to make him look like a hunchback, he did have hair extensions added to lengthen his mane for the role.
The chin-length, wavy hair may have not bothered Radcliffe as much, but his having to bend over while playing his role caused him serious inconvenience revealed Huff Post Entertainment UK. The physical ordeal resulted to his undergoing several Osteopathy sessions to help assuage his physical discomfort.
As it turned out, this is Radcliffe's second time to play the role of a physically disabled character, his first being the cripple in the famous West End play "The Cripple of Innishman."
His exact thoughts on this, as reported by Huff Post Entertainment UK read:
"I went straight from playing (the cripple) to playing a hunchback and the hunchback is much harder."
Harder it may be, but the results for Radcliffe may well turn out for the best, as his Igor character occupies a central position in distinguishing the new version of the adaptation. The story plays out from Igor's perspective, from the time he got acquainted with Doctor Frankenstein and eventually started working for him, until the moment the monster was conceptualized and created.
Thus, as Entertainment Weekly surmised, even if the film is entitled "Victor Frankenstein," the heart of the story is directly connected to his assistant Igor.
According to Hit Fix, Daniel Radcliffe stars alongside James McAvoy of "X-Men" fame in this newest take on the gothic monster classic that would come to life in theaters on October 2, 2015.
