Ted Bishop tried his best to make up for his wrong choice of words before leaving his post as the 38th president of the PGA of America.
Many of the other PGA Presidents were long forgotten as well as their legacy but not Bishop. Bishop will always be remembered by the people but not always in a good way.
According to Davis Love III, part of eight Ryder Cup teams as a player, assistant and a captain "Of all the presidents I dealt with, he was more into competing to win. His mission was not to grow the Ryder Cup. It was to win. And I love that about him. We've talked so much in the last year about what's going on with the Ryder Cups before and after. His heart is in the right place."
Adding "Just maybe not his comments."
Yep, Bishop's most popular comment was his tweet calling Ian Poulter "a little girl."
Long since he was sacked, Bishop has already apologized about his words and actions. He said "I want to apologise to Ian Poulter and anyone else that I might have offended with my remarks. I have great remorse that my comments contained the words 'little girl' because I have always been a great advocate for girls and women in golf."
He adds "In my 37-year career in golf, I have worked with many women to grow the sport and I have been a champion for inclusion and equal rights for women in golf. This is a classic example of poor use of social media on my part."
On the other hand, the Ladies Professional Golf Association praised the PGA's dismissal of Bishop.
In a statement they said "The PGA of America's quick and decisive action sent a strong message - reinforcing a consistent belief that with so many positive gains being made among golf's leading organisations, there is simply no room nor willingness, to take a step backwards."
In his appearance in the Golf Channel, he said "I think when I wake up at 2:30, 3:30 in the morning, and I can't sleep, it's because I look at the things that I feel like I've done in my career - for my girls, for women - and I think these things, they're flushed down the toilet. That's going to be my legacy. That's it. That's the situation I created for myself."
