Bernard Hopkins news reveals former WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly's statements saying that "The Alien's" boxing career will be coming to an end on November 8th. Cleverly adds that the 49-year old boxer will likely experience trouble handling his opponent's style.
Hopkins will be facing Russian knockout artist Sergey Kovalev on November 8th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. "The Alien" will be defending both his IBF and WBA light heavyweight titles, while "Krusher" will be putting his WBO light heavyweight title on the line.
Bernard Hopkins news reveals that Cleverly, who fought and lost his title to Kovalev, is certain that things will not go Hopkins' way on fight night, and that the world may be seeing the last of "B-Hop" afterwards.
"I think Hopkins will go on until this next fight against Kovalev - and then that will be his last fight," Cleverly told ESPN. "I think Hopkins sees something in Kovalev that makes him fancy it and thinks he can win, but I just can't see it happening for him."
Bernard Hopkins news also reveals the unique and fearsome knockout power Kovalev possesses. In 2011, "Krusher" faced and defeated fellow Russian contender Roman Simakov. The outcome of the fight, however, took a gruesome turn when Simakov passed away days after due to brain injuries from accumulated punches to the head.
Cleverly is banking on the same idea that the 49-year old Hopkins will not be able to endure the punching power that his younger opponent has in both hands.
"I've felt Kovalev's power and it is something else," Cleverly added. "He has incredible punching power, throws punches correctly and has great technique. I think Hopkins will try and mess Kovalev about for a few rounds but once Kovalev starts landing his punches cleanly, which he might find difficult to do at first, he will capitalise and finish him."
