Fred Couples says U.S. doesn’t need no stinkin’ Ryder Cup task force

American professional golfer who competes on the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour, Fred Couples said there is no need for a Ryder Cup Task Force.

He said "I don't think anyone should panic. I don't think we need a 'task force.' I don't think we need the PGA of America straining about this. What I really think they need is to get players that have been on a lot of these teams to get a feel for what kind of captain they need."

Couples is a former World No. 1, he has won 57 professional tournaments, most notably the 1992 Masters Tournament.

According to him, it is much easier to manage a Presidents Cup team rather than a Ryder Cup group and that is because the former has more playing opportunities but leading the latter group is not really a brain surgery.

He said "It's still 12 players in a room, and I think they all are different in certain ways. You've got to let the players get involved ... I particularly don't think it's really that hard to do, I really don't."

Couples also argued that it takes two years to prepare for a Ryder Cup because if that were so, it would be hard to find potential players for the team.

He said "I think it's all just a little bit much. We need a little more fun and that comes with winning."

But despite Couples clean record, in August 2011 he won his maiden senior major at the Senior Players Championship and followed this up in July 2012 when he won the Senior British Open Championship, he was also inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2013. He was not invited to join the task force.

He said "How about the PGA Ryder Cup Committee, can I say that? That sounds way better."

Even so, both Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson Want Fred Couples as Next Ryder Cup Captain. Couples said that members of the recent Ruder Cup group rang him right after the event in Gleneagles and had asked him to be the head of the group.
