Dropbox just became a perfect place to save Microsoft Office files. The two firms declared collaboration on Tuesday that will let sync all Microsoft Office apps directly to Dropbox account to make editing files faster.
After integrating your Dropbox account to Microsoft Powerpoint, Excel and Word, yoy can control all files and folders on Dropbox to see and edit in the Office apps, Microsoft did the announcement through a blog post. The firm further explained that it will be upgrading its Office apps for Android, iPad and iPhone with the new feature soon.
On Dropbox's side of the fence, users can also view and edit Office documents like Powerpoint, Excel and Word, from the Dropbox app on Android and iOS. The firm also said it will definitely release an app for Windows tablets and phones in the next few weeks.
Microsoft partnership with Dropbox is to cope with the changes brought by smartphones. The company's visions a mobile first and cloud first world by cooperating with the popular software. Dropbox is described by Microsoft as isolated, single, little start up solutions.
Its OneDrive service directly competes with Dropbox, but now they are operating together in orders to serve businesses and consumers, Microsoft is now making way for them.
According to Kirk Koenigsbauer, the corporate vice president of Microsoft Office 365 Client Applications, "Today Office and Dropbox work really well together on the desktop but people have multiple devices and need to have access to productivity tools everywhere. This is an important extension into the mobile space."
On the other hand, Dropbox is rolling on mobile.
In 2007, the app was created for desktop; it has since progressed to 300 million users, powered by the development of tablet and smartphone, user's demand to access their files anywhere they go or whatever device they use.
