Botox Injection Side Effects No Longer To Be Worried About? Minor Cosmetic Procedures Are Safe, Studies Show

The main thing that people dipping their feet into the world of cosmetic surgery, even minor procedures such as Botox injections, are worried about are the potential side effects.

However, a recent study has reportedly shown that minor cosmetic procedures, including Botox injections and dermal fillers, are actually very safe and have a low possibility of side effects if done by trained professionals, according to BBC News.

For the study, researchers reportedly examined the results of more than 20,000 of several procedures, such as neurotoxins and the use of laser and energy devices, that were performed by 23 dermatologists at eight centers across the United States, according to the news outlet Newsmax Health. Minor side effects or complications, such as bruising, swelling, redness, bumpiness or skin darkening, reportedly occurred in less than 1 percent of patients.

There were reportedly no major complications.

"The message for patients is that if you are thinking of getting one of these procedures, you are not indulging in something drastic or high-risk," study leader Dr. Murad Alam, a professor of dermatology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and a physician at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, stated in a university news release.

He continued, "The take home is these procedures are very safe and can be mixed and matched to give the individual a significant cosmetic benefit, rather than getting one big cosmetic procedure that might be risky."

Although the recent study may have eased the minds of those who have been contemplating undergoing a minor procedure, it is important to note that these results emphasized the necessity of trained professionals.

"It is only safe if you have the necessary training," stated Nigel Mercer, deputy president of the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons.

He continued, "If you're a reality TV star who does filler injections, you could say this study shows the risks of these procedures is very small - but we don't have honest reporting about what these risks are."
